Review: Rahasia Gadis (+Giveaway)

Title : Rahasia Gadis, A Girl's Secret Guidebook
Author : -R-
ISBN : 9786026850034
Edition : Hardcover (January 2016)
Publisher : Rafikatama
Page counts : 102 pages
Language : Indonesia-English
Genre : Nonfiction

This is my diary of dreams, life, happiness, and love. This is the secret I'd like to share only with you!

Okay. A bit background story. It was unusual for me to get a review request for nonfiction--most of all a guidebook for girls. I'm a young woman *clear throats* and I admit, I fell in love with the pictures they sent me. They looked so pretty and colorful.

Rahasia Gadis (it's Indonesian for Girl's Secrets) is a social media account on Instagram (@rahasiagadis). It was once focused on beauty and health tips for Indonesian women--of all ages. As Rahasia Gadis grows, they started to accept more questions about life in general, like financial, family, job, even romantic life. This book is for every woman in Indonesia, to help them--us--fight for what we live for.

All in all, this book is very pretty! Full of beautiful and stark color. I recall the Admin said that everything is handwritten and the typography is done on their own. I was like, wow!

Twenty-six-year-old Gaby Barreto might be a lot of things (loyal, sarcastic, one of the guys and a pain in the butt depending on which family member you ask), but dumb isn’t one of them. When her twin brother invites her to go on tour as his band’s merch girl, she isn’t exactly screaming at the top of her lungs with joy.

With no job opportunities pounding on her door, an ex-boyfriend she would still like to castrate, and no end in sight to moving out of her parents’ house in Dallas… it would be dumb to say no to the chance of a lifetime. Two bands, three continents, one tour. Spending the next ninety-plus days with three beloved idiots and eight complete strangers shouldn’t be a big deal, right?

If only the singer of the headlining band didn’t have tattoos... a great personality… a fantastic body… and if he wasn’t so funny….

Let’s be real: Gaby never had a chance against Sacha Malykhin.

I like to give an author a second chance, just to see if I could love him/her more on my second trip. In Under Locke, I loved Mariana's sense of humor and how her characters are funny (bordering on inappropriately). When this book showed up on my TRSOR notification feed, I thought, "Well, fine then. Let's try again."

Thank God I wasn't disappointed.

Gaby Barreto is a bit bored. She doesn't have a job and she just broke up. When her twin, a member of  Ghost Orchid band, offers her to be their merch girl, she agrees. She knows what she's getting herself into: living three months with eleven guys on a tour bus. Eleven rowdy guys. Including her twin brother and her two best friends.

How could you think I'd get tired of you? I'm the one always following you around.

Reading Romance 2016: January-March Progress Update

Hi guys!
How was the start of your 2016? :) I hope it's going well!

So, it's already March. To be honest, I didn't realize time has gone so fast! So I guess it's time for an update for the first period of Reading Romance. I make this update now because I am prone of forgetting that I have to make it :D

I promised you some gimmicks/gifts for each update, but after some considering about my schedule, I'll call for winners on each update at the end of 2016. Sorry for this change of plan, but I promise you, the wait will be worth it.

I wanna start with my own progress. Up until March 19, I've read 31 books. And only 2 is not counted as romance. That means I've got 29 romance books for this first period. I've read about a lot of stuffs--starting from military, to pure contemporary, to fantasy, to paranormal.

Now to you, I wanna know how many romance novels you've read.

How to update:

1. Make a post about the romance books you've read from January 1st to March 31st. To make it easier for you guys, you can write your progress on your Master Post or make a new progress post that you update every period.

2. If you make reviews, please link up your reviews on your progress post

3. Please write your progress post with this following format:

# (Month) Book Title - Author - Category

Or, if you are categorizing your books like I do (view my own progress post), you still HAVE to write up the month.

4. There is a Linky below. Link up your progress post with this following format:

Name - Your Blog Name/Goodreads Name/Facebook Name

5. Please don't submit ALL your review links. Link up your reviews on your progress post

6. If you are using Goodreads, you can link up the shelf you made for this RC. Use URL shortener (bit.ly, tinyurl, etc) if the link is too long. If you are using Facebook, use Note to make the post.

7. The Linky will be open from now until April 10th. Make sure you don't forget to add your link to make you eliglible for my giveaway at the end of the year

Thank your for your participation and your enthusiasm! I can't wait to see your progress :) Any question, you can tweet to me @ridyananda or email me on my email ninaridyananda[at]gmail[dot]com.

A Political Romantic Suspense

There’s a name for girls like me: Sugar Baby. I’m used to being passed around the sexually depraved, middle-aged senators of Washington D.C. like candy, but when I meet him - the mysterious man who buys my exclusivity for three months for price that should frighten me more than his demands - everything changes.

He's younger than the others. His touch is softer. His lips sweeter. His need fiercer. He has only one requirement...

A blindfold to protect his identity... and to protect me from the danger I'd face if our affair leaked to the world.

No phones. No light. No real names. He says I'm his dark paradise, and we have to keep it that way. He promises I'll thank him someday.

But what is he really hiding? And what happens if I find out?

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

1. This is a standalone, full-length romance with HEA and NO cliffhanger. It will not become a series, and there is no bonus content included. What you see is what you get. :-)

2. If you're looking for a true-to-life political thriller, this isn't it. If you want a forbidden political romance with twists, turns, suspense, and a generous amount of steamy love scenes, then this is your book. As my heroine says, "The fantasy is always better than the reality."

Happy reading! xoxo

Reading this book was an experience. I haven't read many books with 'different' kinds of heroine. Dark Paradise intrigued me since the first turn of page, and it wasn't exactly a heavy reading so I managed to finish in one day.

All we'll ever have will be right here, in this hotel room.
Our own dark paradise.

Camille Buchanan is an escort to the powerful and influential men in Washington, DC. She provides her service for however long her client pays her. And then a man wants to hire her--on the condition that she has to wear a blindfold for every time they meet. Camille is curious. Her latest client is not an old, middle-aged ugly politician. He sounds young. He feels amazing.

Her time is over.
Things are looking up.

She’s dirty and ugly.
He’s wicked but handsome.

Six months to toy with her.
Six months of vacation and a ton of money.

I’ll hurt her beyond repair.
I’ve been through much worse.

She's difficult to control and doesn't obey.
I'm done submitting to anyone or anything in this life.

I should hate her.
I should hate him.

The game has changed.
I will win.

Dirty Ugly Toy is a novel that blurs the lines of right and wrong, deals with abuse, contains dubious consent, and adult subject matter. If you are sensitive to violent sexual situations, the book may not be suitable for you. Some parts of this book are not easy to read and are not intended for everyone. However, those that keep an open mind and stick with it will not be disappointed.

I definitely didn't expect to spend almost a month to finish up this book. I was a bit enthusiastic at first, because Dark Romance is one of the subgenres I haven't had a chance to really explore. Call me a total conservative, but Dark Romance is not usually on my plate.

You really should read the blurb. Seriously. Before you decide to get your hands on this book. Because the author has stated that Dirty Ugly Toy blurs the line. I got a chance to chat with a friend who didn't manage to finish this book, but I rallied and moved through it. I was really considering not finishing this book and shelf it on DNF, but then, I got really curious with the ending.

My Dark Prince Uncharming showed up in his black horse and saved the day.

Jessica is not okay. She's dirty. She's too broken. She's been living on the streets in Bolton, UK, using and soliciting, running from her past. It was unexpected that one day a man comes to her and offered her something she could barely refuse. Money and shelter in exchange for sex. Of course she accepts, because she needs it before the streets kill her for sure.

BLURB:
The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. From everything Jamie has heard about Charlotte, it seems safer to admire her from afar.

From the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else. But when a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Jamie and Charlotte are being framed for murder, and only Charlotte can clear their names. But danger is mounting and nowhere is safe—and the only people they can trust are each other.

A Study in Charlotte is the first in a trilogy.

To my chagrin, I never did read any of Sherlock Holmes adventures. Even though I enjoy BBC's Sherlock and I adore Martin Freeman's John Watson, I never was tempted to read Sir Arthur's work. But I was tempted enough to read A Study in Charlotte, because, well, Sherlock is a girl here.

James 'Jamie' Watson moved from London to Sherringford in Connecticut. Moving a whole country away is not easy for him, even if Charlotte Holmes, the descendant of Sherlock Holmes, is on the same school as him. Though he wants to be friends with this girl, Charlotte is not impressed with him, so they were wary of each other.

I belonged here, I thought, with her, as surely as anyone belonged anywhere.
As weird as here was.

But when they found themselves framed of a classmate's murder, they were forced to work together. The murder and other cases copied Sherlock and John's popular cases too. Charlotte and Jamie need to clear their names. Not to mention that they were supposed to be best friends because their great-great-grandfathers were besties too back in Victorian years. Jamie also has to keep an eye of Charlotte because the girl doesn't have the slightest sense of self-preservation and she's reckless as hell. Just like the other Holmes in her family.

BLURB:
For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community...

Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.

But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs…

I've been waiting for this book for a year. A year. A loooooong wait to read this amazing fantasy-paranormal book about beings that are more paranormal than humans, a Wolf, and a cassandra sangue. I won't get into the backgrounds of cassandra sangue aka blood prophet, the terra inidigene, and Humans First and Last movement, because if you've read book 1-3, you'll already understand :)

Meg wouldn't allow him to become too human because she needed him to retain the nature and heart of a Wolf.

In Vision in Silver, the tension is rising between terra indigene and humans. HFL is now shaking things up, provoking humans to take what they deserve even though casualties are mounting in both sides. In the city of Lakeside, Simon Wolfgard and the humans who want to keep the peace a little longer are doing what they can to keep the storm away from Lakeside. Because the storm will hit. The Elders, the form of earth native who touch so rarely with humans and civilization, are getting antsy and angrier. It's just a matter of when, not if, humans will be wiped to the point of extinction.

"First comes the storms," Simon said. "Then come the Elders."
"Then comes death," Vlad finished. "There won't be much mercy, if any."

It's a war in Thaisia. Every eart native is now on guard, from the shifters, Sanguinati, the Elementals, and even the cassandra sangue. On the other hand, what's going on in Lakeside between Meg the sweet blood and the other terra indigene in Lakeside Courtyard is being watched with interest. Her closeness to Simon and the Wolf traits she often shows is a fascination that the Elders rarely sees. It's up to her and her friends to help the terra indigene in saving other humans now.

Bookish Soundtrack: Run On Love (Lucas Nord feat Tove Lo)

We can run on love for a while
We can run on love for a while
We can run on love 'till it dies
'Till it dies again

Quite frankly, despite Taylor Swift being more popular and her songs are just too right for the books I have, I love Tove Lo more. My bookish mate Sasti introduced me to this Swedish lady, and I loved her the moment I heard Habits. You've probably heard Heroes, a song from her and Alesso. Tove Lo has a knack of being brutally honest in her songs, the emotions are just too real.

Run On Love, on the version of single, has an amazing music and great lyrics. I can even see the desperation, the loathing, the love. See the complete lyric.

I had one mission
But I committed treason
I can't believe I caved for you
So I am now a failure
Everything I gave ya'
That's the low for live like you

I was re-reading Defenseless when my playlist played this song. I heard the words "the mission", and then wow, the whole song is definitely for this book. You can read my review here.

Well, I didn't expect to get an ARC of this baby. It might be a little late to post a review because I've been sick last week, so I couldn't touch my laptop much. Stygian was an amazing read, so reading Tyrant was no hardship.

Even if the book is about the broody Kilter instead of happy-go-lucky Jedrik :P You must read Stygian before you read Tyrant.

Kilter went back to save the woman who helped them before, even when their Taldeburu says it's not the right time. Kilter, being his usual stubborn ass, doesn't listen. Though saving Rayne from the compound where they tortured and did experiments to her is only half the problem. Rayne is fading--literally. But Kilter doesn't know the word giving up, and he promises to protect this woman with everything he has. Even if he has to defy Waleron to do it.

He was beautiful. Kilter was my beautiful tyrant.

Other than my best friend and business partner my life is my own, and I answer to no one. Then my life changes with a single phone call and I’m back in Kansas fighting for guardianship of my four younger siblings. Now I answer to her, Brooke Porter.

Brooke
I’ve devoted myself for the past six years to my dream of being a social worker. My very first case are the Monroes, and professional and personal boundaries blur as I become closer to them. Now my dreams are of Dylan. The attraction Dylan and I have is heading us straight to unsocial behavior.

What will we be risking if we give in?

*Unsocial is a New Adult Romance novel that contains mature content and is not suitable for anyone under 18.

I rarely venture to request ARCs on my own. I received everything from TRSOR. But I was glad I requested this book. So, this review is as honest as it get, because I don't bother putting a review for a book I dislike.

It all starts from Dylan Monroe getting a call that he needs to be home and be a guardian for his siblings. Though he doesn't have the best relationship with his family, he's the only adult that can take responsibility for his two brothers and two sisters. He wasn't surprised when the judge assigned a social worker to review things for a year. What he doesn't expect is getting attracted to Brooke Porter. Things that should have been professional become too personal.

Danielle
I remember nothing of my abduction two years ago. Sounds and scents trigger horrific flashes, but it’s all a blur except for one man with brilliant green eyes. When the tatted six foot two Adonis shows up at my door, my knowledge of the world is shattered.
Bound to the immortal Scar by an ancient spell, we are on the run. Because Balen is the hunted.
And if he dies, so do I.

Balen
My code of honor was respected without question … until I consumed the blood of a vampire in exchange for a mortal woman’s freedom.
The Scars want me imprisoned. The Wraiths want me dead.
But the woman I can’t forget needs me. And I’ll risk everything to protect her.
Even if it means killing her.

Because in order for her to live—first she must die.

After taking a hiatus on reading new Paranormal Romance, I decided to pop it with Stygian. It was, surprisingly, on TRSOR's list (and I didn't really pay attention about it).

Danielle was kidnapped. But she barely remembers what happened when she was there--and who was there with her. She was rescued, but sometimes things trigger her memory. Even her friends are so tight-lipped about what happened. She doesn't expect the stranger who appears on her memories to really shows up on her door. His name is Balen--and their attraction is not a figment of Danielle's imagination.

“I’d fight for you, Danni. Right to the fuckin’ end. I’d never stop. No matter what shit was put up against us, I’d keep fighting. You know why? Because that’s what you do when you love someone.”
